Our Care Home Partnership

Here at Rosedene Nurseries we place a huge focus on developing our Care Home partnerships. What started as a small project in our Northallerton based nursery has spread across the company and now each of our 11 nurseries has built a strong connection with a Care Home within in their local community.

Our children make weekly visits to their local Care Home and plan a range of activities which benefit both the children and residents alike. This ranges from reading sessions to sign language lessons to arts and crafts and even outdoor activities such as picnics and nature trails.

Although toddlers and the elderly don’t appear to have much in common and may seem like mismatched companions, time spent between young and old should not be underestimated. Our children have developed an insight into life’s natural ageing process and a huge understanding of how to form relationships with age groups different to their own. They have also gained a huge amount of empathy and often discuss and enquire about their new found friends when returning to nursery and to parents at home. A visit to see the residents is a pivotal part of our children’s week and something they really look forward to.

In addition, the huge benefit to the residents has been highlighted by the care teams across our paired facilities, including Mount Vale Care Home, Northallerton. Rebecca Clark, Head Activities Co-Ordinator said ‘’Having the Rosedene children come visit and interact on a regular basis has improved our Residents lives without question. A reading corner, walks around the grounds or just listening to the children’s giggles makes a huge difference. Watching residents with dementia speak and interact in other ways when normally they have lost the ability, is a real sight to see. Listening to stories and songs that our Residents teach to the children is fascinating and they children are completely engrossed. This is a wonderful partnership for both our Residents and Children’’.

This wonderful partnership between young and old is blossoming from strength to strength within our nurseries, the visits form a pivotal part of our children’s week and we have so much more planned for visits in the future. Please ask your nursery team if you would like to be involved in our Care Home Partnership, we would love to have our parents join us on one of our visits!
